Geo-Series Episode #9 Geoid Modelling: Insights and Experiences from Uruguay
About the Speaker
Dr. Walter Humberto Subiza Pina, a distinguished expert in geodetic sciences, holds a Ph.D. in Geosciences from the Federal University of Parana. He is a notable figure in cartography, geoid modelling, and statistical analysis, having made significant contributions to Uruguay’s geoid modelling since 2000 through his involvement with the Military Geographic Institute of Uruguay (IGM) and the SIRGAS project.
Dr. Pina, a Technical Council member of IGM, led the development of Uruguay’s initial geoidal model and consistently enhanced it over the years. His proficiency extends to spatial analysis, statistical modelling, and cartography, as demonstrated during his tenure at the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics.
His impactful publications include the “Precision Geoid for Uruguay Urugeoid Project Report 2000” and the “Simultaneous Adjustment of the High-Precision Altimetric Network (RAAP) of the Brazilian Geodesic System (SGB).”
